Root Canal Therapy

Root Canal Therapy

What is root canal therapy and why do I need it?

A root canal is often needed when the pulp of the tooth gets infected due to decay or injury to the tooth. A reputable dentist can help save your natural tooth by performing endodontic treatment. If you do not save the tooth, a bridge or dental implants will be necessary to keep your teeth from shifting out of place. Call our office if you have any symptoms of an infected tooth, such as swelling, tooth sensitivity or pain.

What can I expect during a root canal?

Dr. Birckhead & Dr. Powers are very experienced at performing root canal therapy. They will give you a local anesthetic in order to perform this non-surgical treatment. The dentist will make you feel as comfortable as possible during the treatment and will provide nitrous oxide analgesia if necessary. During the endodontic treatment, your dentist will remove the diseased pulp tissue, clean the area and seal the tooth to prevent further infection. Sometimes the root canal will take more than one visit depending on the treatment.

What happens after the root canal therapy?

You will normally be able to go about your daily routine after your endodontic treatment. Although it is rare to experience complications, if you do experience a problem after your treatment, you can contact our office and they will respond to your concerns.

How much does root canal therapy cost?

The cost of root canal therapy varies with the tooth being treated.  It is much cheaper to have an endodontic procedure performed than it is to risk the loss of a tooth due to removal and replacement with a bridge or implant-supported crown.

As a patient of Dr. Birckhead and Dr. Powers, I have experienced exceptional dental care. I have never been this pleased with every aspect of the dental patient treatment as I have since my first visit in this office. Everyone involved from the dentist to the staff has always demonstrated personal care and professionalism in a very relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend any of my family and friends to come here for all their dental needs. It has been a pleasurable experience.
